USDAA in Turlock Sunday we ran a great Advanced Gamblers, did the gamble perfect but somehow was .15 over time, even though the 2nd whistle never blew... Next was Advanced Standard which she did well, weaved slow but ok, we went pretty fast but somehow was .75 over time. Boy that was frustrating, 2 runs over by less that a second combined for no Q's. Next was Standard Snooker, ran ok but another off course whistle, but we were able to close with a great Masters Jumpers (the hardest course of the show) for a Q! Kadi ran most everything pretty much perfect, responded well, 1 second, 1 weave and 1 bar away from 4 more Q's.. I was extremely happy with her overall performance. Our friends Scott and Foster had 3-4 Q's for an awesome show. Foster was looking great and was noodle-free! Annie ran nice too and was coming up just short of Qing her runs, but finished with a great Jumpers for an Advanced Q.
From Scott, Anne & Foster, The Q's may have been few and far between but all in all if was a fun show. The best part of the show for me, was to see Foster working consistently and not shutting down. He even managed a nice teeter, back to back dog walk combo in his gamblers run only to miss the gamble because I called his name pulling him off the jump, big duh moment there! For Annie and I, it was our first all Adv. show. It could have gone better.
I was really hoping to see Bob Q his grand prix run. Unfortunately, there was a bobble at the weaves that threw them off and cost them the Q so, no Nationals for Bob and Kadi this year. BUMMER.
Sat:
My pairs run with Foster was good, we Q'd first place. We were the only 22" dog and no partner. We ended up running with a cool little Boston named Elvis who ran twice. We NQ'd jumpers when I pulled him off a tunnel right before the end of the course. We Q'd with a 1st in snooker. This time there were other 22" dogs. :) So Foster's first day was pretty good! I've been keeping him out of std. until I can get him working happily. Maybe we are getting close to being able to run std. again.
Annie and I just couldn't get it together this entire show. In pairs we had more errors in the half of the course we ran with Bob and Kadi than we did in any other single run. Missed A-frame downside contact, knocked bar, wrong end of the tunnel, it was ugly. Apologies to Bob and Kadi who ran fast and clean. We knocked a bar in jumpers for a NQ 4th. I don't remember what happened in snooker, but we didn't Q (could it have been handler focus? :) ). Our std. run was looking pretty good until those toenails met the first bar on the double which was the last jump on the course. That one hurt a little. Our PNP run was pretty good until I pushed her too hard in the weaves and pulled her out of them. I got flustered and caused her to knock a bar too. So no PNP Q for us either. Luckily we qualified last show.
Sun:
Annie got sucked in by the tunnel (I was aiming for the dogwalk) on a dogwalk/tunnel discrimination on our gamblers run. I called her back to reset her for the dogwalk and sent her into the tunnel yet again. This cost us time but the the real killer was the missed downside contact on the A-frame in the gamble, NQ. In Std. Annie missed the downside dogwalk contact and popped out of the weaves again, NQ. In snooker I turned too wide coming out of the weaves sending her over a jump instead of getting her to the last red, NQ. Jumpers was our last run of the day and we managed to redeem ourselves with a Q and 3rd place. I was really happy with the way our last run of the show went, we finally got our flow back and had fun!
Fosters gamblers run was going really well right up until the point I mentioned above when I called his name, Oops! I couldn't get him reset in time so NQ. I blew our snooker run by getting confused on the course. The obstacles were the same as the Adv. course which I had just run, but the closing was numbered differently and I mixed the two runs up causing me to hesitate too long. We just hit the A-frame when the whistle blew leaving us short on points by 2, NQ. Foster also saved the day, by making it back to back Q's for he an Annie in jumpers. He even got 4th place! I was really happy to see him run so well this weekend. He really worked hard and never let me down. Good Foster!
So, it was a tough show bookmarked with a long drive six hours up and five back. It turned out not to be too hot and the site itself was very nice with lots of fenced green grass to run the dogs off leash in between runs. The people were very nice too. We met a nice lady named Mary who has a ACD named Skeeter with a face that is practically the splitting image of Foster. I wish I had a camera.
If you find yourself in Turlock. Morinitas has killer salsa! :0
