Rally Obedience

What is Rally?  Rally is a form of obedience that has been designed to be fun and enjoyable for both the handler and dog.  You can talk to and praise your dog all during the Rally training (and trialing, should you want to compete).  It is similar to agility in that you have a course that you walk to determine your handling manuevers, instead of having agility obstacles there are signs placed along a course that give you instructions to carry out with your dog, for example: Turn Right, Fast Pace, Weave Cones, Figure 8, and the basics like Halt and Down.

Rally is a fun way to work on your dog's focus and your teamwork.  The emphasis is on encouraging your dog to pay attention to your handling (great carry-over for agility) but also to be happy and animated. You can come to a session of Rally classes just to check it out, to have a fun hour of play with your dog for an hour a week, to prepare for a Rally trial in the future, or just to improve your teamwork and relationship with your dog. Dogs of all ages and ability levels can play, as well as people too!

Levels Offered:

APDT Level 1 (Novice) Classes: These classes are geared towards dogs brand new to the sport of Rally. You will be taught the basics on how to get and maintainyour dog's attention span and focus on your cues, and you will learn the various skills within the Level 1 exercises such as heeling, turns, basic stays, the cone exercises, and changes of pace. This is a great class for anyone with a dog, young or old, who would like to practice and develop more obedience and attention with their dog, and a very fun way to spend an hour with that favorite canine in your life.

APDT Level 2 (Advanced) Rally Obedience Classes: This class is designed for dogs that have earned their Level 1 Novice title and are ready to begin working off-leash to learn the Level 2 Exercises. Dogs in this class should be able to work off-leash reliably, have a strong focus on their handler, and possess good skills in heeling, pivot turns, changes of pace, stays, and be able to jump obedience-style hurdles. You can participate in this class if you are working at the Advanced AKC Rally level as well. Contact Anne with any questions at Zipnkiwi@aol.com

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your class start time to walk and potty your dog, and help with set-up. Please bring a crate, exercise pen, or some way to secure your dog while you walk the Rally courses. Bring soft and chewy treats that your dog goes nuts for and maintains its attention around distractions (something meaty is recommended, or cheese, Natural Balance, etc). Feel free to bring toys that your dog enjoys, a collar and leash, water and a bowl, and clean-up bags for your dog.
