September 19, 2011 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
6:00pm: Agility Training Class – Contacts and Weaves
This class is for dogs that are currently competing or planning to compete in agility trials and are looking to hone your dog’s skills.
3 weeks of this class will focus on weaves: entries, teaching rhythm through the poles, improving speed and accuracy, and adding in elements of difficulty: distance, weaves in sequences, handling manuevers such as front and rear crosses, and for more advanced dogs, distractions.
3 weeks of this class will focus on contacts: safe entries and exits, building speed and confidence, some obstacle discrimination, and teaching the dog to understand the 2-on, 2-off position on the contact zone with the handler in various locations. We’ll eventually add in elements of difficulty such as handler distance and movement to help teach independent obstacle behavior. Running contacts will not be covered in this class, but if a team has already trained a clear criteria for a running contact, you may attend.
- Class sessions are 6 weeks long, one-hour per class
- Cost of the session is $90/GVDC members and $120/non-members
- All classes take place at Girsh Park in Goleta, behind Costco: https://www.goletavalleydogclub.org/practices/
