Jumping Skills and Drills w/Anne
November 15, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Jumping Skills and Drills:
Jumps are the most frequent obstacles used on an agility course and they come in several forms: wing jumps, non-wing, panel, broad, triple, double, tire. The dog clears the jump and it is considered successful, but there are other factors to take into consideration such as take-off, landing, striding, the dog’s jumping form, and their confidence. Jumping skills are crucial to a successful agility team, and if you are planning to trial your dog in competition or just want a better athlete, then this class is recommended.
In the Jump Skills class we will work on the dog’s understanding of what is required with each type of jump, how to properly prepare for and execute each jump, and negotiating lines of jumps. We will be using single jumps, jump grids, and jumping sequences throughout this session. This class is helpful for dogs that have started their agility careers and those who are newer to agility and would like to get started correctly. Since we will be doing sequencing (doing several jumps at a time) some agility experience is preferred. The use of video cameras or iPads for filming is encouraged.
Bring with you to class each week: A toy you can send your dog to, or a toy with food in it. Please teach your dog to send to that toy or a target with food on it, such as a plastic lid from a yogurt container.
