If you know that you will not be attending classes on 4/21, be sure to let me know that when you register. Thanks! Location: Girsh Park in Goleta: https://goletavalleydogclub.org/practices/ In the event that I need to cancel a class, the make-up date will be held on May 12th. Please note that 5/12 will not be a date that I have a class for those that miss classes during the planned session. Refunds are not issued for missed classes. 11:45am: Novice Contacts and Weaves Skills: This class is for dogs and handlers newer to agility and have already completed the Intro to Agility 2 class, and for those who need more confidence and understanding of the contact obstacles and weaves. We will continue to work the lowered contact obstacles individually, making sure that the dogs feel confident on the equipment and have the correct end performance on each obstacle. As the dogs’ performance improves on the contact obstacles, speed & handler distance will be encouraged as well as accuracy. We will work on teaching the dogs to understand the concept of weave entries, learning weaving rhythm and footwork, and gradually add more poles as the dogs’ understanding improves. For faster learners, distance skills and improving speed through the poles will be encouraged. Additional skills emphasized in this class: various agility foundation exercises, encouraging the frequent use of rewards for the dogs, reinforcing a start-line stay, learning how to train cues to help the dogs understand what we are asking of them. The main goal for this class is to have a fun hour with our dogs, reviewing the basics of novice-level agility and setting the stage for future learning. Class arrival time: 11:30am *Per GVDC club policy, dogs in Agility classes must not be aggressive towards other dogs or people, and under control of their handler at all times.* For all Agility Classes, please bring with you each week: Your dog on a flat buckle collar or front-clip harness. Bring a variety of delicious meaty treats for your dog, water and a bowl, a chair for yourself, shade for your dog, clicker, 4 or 6 foot leash (no flexi’s please), and ideally a crate or pen for your dog (optional). Please bring a toy or two that your dog really enjoys, to use as a reward throughout the class. For a dog that is not yet motivated by toys or for a pup that needs some cool new ones, please look at the treat pouches lined with bunny fur and fleece and other creations, made by our own Linda Keating. Linda is often at classes and can be reached via email at 44linda@cox.net, and you may be able to purchase from her at Girsh Park: http://kibatoys.com/main.sc
