Workshop with Mia
February 18, 2012 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm$55 – $70
This Saturday I’ll be doing a workshop on Directionals/Distance Skills. We’ll be covering how to teach a “go” (as in go forward on a straight line), “out” (move away laterally, also works as a redirect) and the basics of “left/right” or “turn” (change direction). I will also have some basic set ups I use to proof these skills.
There will be some single jump exercises that will have multiple dogs working at the same time. There will also be lots of tossed rewards, so toys will be needed or a toy that can hold food, so the dog isn’t sniffing the ground looking for the treat. You will leave the workshop with homework to really perfect these skills. Personally, I like practicing direcitonals while sitting in a chair with a nice glass of wine.
This workshop will be very handy for folks who want to be able to do Jim’s Gamblers seminar in June, where solid directionals are required. These are also handy skills for our less mobile handlers or for the sticky dogs that could work further away.
When: We’ll meet at Girsh at 9:30am to set up. Set up will be quick, since we’ll be using jumps and tunnels. I plan on us working until 2:30 with a 20 minute/half hour break.
How much: $55 for club members, $70 for non-members, auditing is $20 for club members, $30 for non-members. Yes, this is a good workshop to audit.
If you’re interested in this workshop, please email me privately. I will be limiting this workshop to 10 teams.
